Aurora Aksnes first musical memory was discovering a piano at her loft, where she was amazed by its sound. Jan Oystein Aksnes, her parents May Britt Aksnes, and Jan Oystein Aksnes urged Aurora Aksnes to take up music for a hobby or career. Her first step was to compose her own songs. She credits renowned composers Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan as influences as well as an affinity for Bjork's style. Her mom encouraged her to sing her songs in public, not for the sake of trying to achieve fame, but rather to inspire others to realize just how important they are and what they can do for the world. At age 6 She began playing on the piano. When she turned nine, started writing songs. The family did not know about this until she was 14. She never had a desire to become Aurora. Her words say that she just likes to write songs. According to her, music is her favorite way of feeling something.
